Website administration
Large companies often have entire departments dedicated to the administration of the company's website. In a small company, however, it is more likely that an enthusiastic employee will be given the task of running a site, along with their other duties.
Unfortunately, the enthusiasm often wanes, particularly when the individual discovers the volume of work involved. Sometimes an outside designer is brought in to create a site, but after the site is up and running, it isn't anybody's job to maintain it. In the very worst cases, it isn't even anybody's job to read and answer e-mail.
To maintain customers' interest in your site, it needs to be updated regularly. Not necessarily daily, but at least once a week, and certainly no less than once a month.
